{"id":18408,"date":"2025-03-10T08:58:18","date_gmt":"2025-03-10T15:58:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/bcwildfire\/?p=18408"},"modified":"2026-01-08T10:48:28","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T18:48:28","slug":"prescribed-burn-planned-for-oconnor-lake-area","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/bcwildfire\/prescribed-burn-planned-for-oconnor-lake-area\/","title":{"rendered":"Prescribed burn planned for O\u2019Connor Lake area"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KAMLOOPS \u2013 The BC Wildfire Service will be supporting Thompson Rivers Natural Resource District in conducting a prescribed burn covering up to 3.5 hectares, about 23 kilometres north of Kamloops.<br>Smoke may be visible from Kamloops, Heffley Creek and surrounding areas, and to motorists travelling along Highway 5 North.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exact timing of this burn will depend on weather and site conditions, but it could begin as early as March 13, 2025 Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though smoke may also linger in the following days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Key goals of this prescribed burn include:<br>\u2022 helping to restore forest health and a properly functioning ecosystem<br>\u2022 returning a natural and necessary process to the land base<br>\u2022 removing forest fuels to reduce the long-term risk of wildfire<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fire is a normal and natural process in many of B.C.\u2019s ecosystems. The BC Wildfire Service works regularly with a range of partners to undertake fuel management activities (including the use of controlled burns), to help reduce the severity of future wildfires and related threats to communities. If your area is impacted by smoke:<br>\u2022 Run portable air cleaners with windows and doors closed.
