{"id":17353,"date":"2024-11-21T09:21:53","date_gmt":"2024-11-21T17:21:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/bcwildfire\/?p=17353"},"modified":"2026-01-08T10:40:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T18:40:11","slug":"kootenay-%ca%94a%c2%b7kinq%cc%93uku-trex-prescribed-fire-training-exchange","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.gov.bc.ca\/bcwildfire\/kootenay-%ca%94a%c2%b7kinq%cc%93uku-trex-prescribed-fire-training-exchange\/","title":{"rendered":"Kootenay \u0294a\u00b7kinq\u0313uku TREX (Prescribed Fire Training Exchange)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>CRANBROOK &#8211; In September 2024, the BC Wildfire Service and \u0294aq\u0313am, a Ktunaxa Nation band, co-hosted a prescribed fire training exchange (TREX) with support from the First Nations\u2019 Emergency Services Society.\u00a0This pilot project was the first-ever delivery of a TREX in B.C. and will serve as a model for future live fire experiential trainings in other regions of the province.\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The training brought together 33 participants from 13 agencies\/communities for 12 days to complete four projects, treating nearly 130 hectares. This brief report provides an overview of the program delivery, lessons learned from the pilot and information about proposed future steps to expand training and capacity building in B.C. Please feel free to share this document with your networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expanding the use of fire as a stewardship tool in B.C. will require more partnership-based training initiatives like TREX.
