Wildfire Risk Reduction project planned near Sheridan Lake

100 MILE HOUSE – The 100 Mile House Natural Resource District will be conducting a wildfire risk reduction and fuel abatement project on the north shore of Sheridan Lake.

When and where

  • Work on this project may start as early as November 20, 2025, and continue into next year, until January 20, 2026.
  • The project covers an area of approximately three hectares adjacent to the Loon Bay Resort and Sheridan Lake day use area south of Highway 24.

What to expect

  • Contractors will be using chainsaws and hand tools to delimb downed trees. Firewood quality wood will be cut into usable sized logs for public use.
  • Small machinery will be used to assist in the creation of piles no larger two metres by three metres.
  • Using hand torches, crews will ignite piles under favourable conditions and will closely monitor all fire activity.
  • Burning may occur over multiple days, as weather and site conditions allow.
  • Personnel will remain on-site each day to ensure fires are controlled and will only leave once the fires have safely burned down and no longer pose a risk of spreading.
  • Fires will continue to be monitored and extinguished once burning is complete.
  • Smoke and flames will be visible to surrounding communities and to motorists on Highway 24.

Objectives of this Wildfire Risk Reduction project

  • Reduce wildfire risk in the Sheridan Lake area by removing fuel and debris from public use areas.
  • Provide bucked logs to the public for firewood.
