Crew History

VanJam originated as two separate fire zones in 1995 with crews based in Vanderhoof and Fort St. James. In 2002, Vanderhoof and Fort St. James amalgamated into one fire zone based in Vanderhoof. The new name, VanJam, is a portmanteau of Vanderhoof and Fort St. James.

In 1997, the fire zones collaborated with School District 91 to create the Junior Initial Attack Program. This program has educated and trained hundreds of high school students and helped them begin careers with BCWS. This program has also been adopted by other fire zones and school districts throughout British Columbia.
