Crew History
Valhalla Unit Crew was founded in 1992 by Brian Koster, the first crew supervisor. The name Valhalla, after the provincial park, was suggested by crewmember Steven Grinch.
The crew was originally based in Lemon Creek before moving to Slocan in 1993. They remained there until 2007, operating as a live-on base. They even had their own cook from 1993 until 2002.
Valhalla Unit Crew joined the BC Wildfire Service officially in 2008. Prior to the construction of the Arrow Fire Zone Primary Attack Base in Shoreacres, the crew operated out of the recycle and transfer station in Castlegar. In 2011, they moved into their current home in Shoreacres.
With a tenure of 18 seasons, Nick Davis was both the longest serving Valhalla Unit Crew member and the longest serving crew supervisor.
