Updated area restriction in effect for the Dogtooth FSR area



CASTLEGAR – The BC Wildfire Service continues to respond to the Dogtooth FSR wildfire (N21427), located approximately 50 kilometres south of the City of Golden, approximately 12 kilometres south of the community of Nicholson and running along side the Columbia River. The current size is estimated to be 5,445 hectares.

In the interest of public and responder safety, an area restriction is now in effect within the Dogtooth FSR area:

  • Commencing at the junction of Parson River Crossing FSR & Back Channel Creek on the west edge of the Columbia River @ [51° 3.716′, -116° 38.955′] then heading northwest along the Columbia River to the mouth of Canyon Creek @ [51° 13.736′, -116° 54.164′],
  • Turning west running along Canyon Creek to [51° 13.418′, -117° 0.506′] then turning south and running along the height of land to [51° 5.637′, -116° 49.418′],
  • Heading due south/southeast and tying into Parson River Crossing FSR @ [51° 3.764′, -116° 49.291′] and heading east along Parson River Crossing FSR tying back into the point of commencement at the junction of Parson River Crossing FSR & Back Channel Creek on the west edge of the Columbia River @ [51° 3.716′, -116° 38.955′].

Under this Order and section 11(2) of the Wildfire Act, a person must not remain in or enter the restricted area without the prior written authorization of an official designated for the purposes of the Wildfire Act, unless the person:

Enters the area only in the course of:
(a) Travelling to or from his or her principal residence, that is not under an evacuation order;
(b) Travelling to or from his or her private or leased property for the purpose of accessing his or her secondary residence or property, that is not under an evacuation order;
(c) Using a highway as defined in the Highway Act;
(d) Travelling as a person acting in an official capacity as defined in s.56 of the Wildfire Act; or
(e) Travelling for the purpose of supporting wildfire suppression or enforcement patrol activities.
