Crew History
The Titan Unit Crew acknowledges they operate on the traditional territory of the Saik’uz First Nation, part of the Dakelh (Carrier) peoples.
From 2001 to 2003, the Vanderhoof Initial Attack Crew operated as a 10 person crew, tasked with suppressing fires in forests impacted by the mountain pine beetle. During this time, they occasionally partnered with a 10 person crew from Houston, Texas. When working together, they proudly called themselves the Thunderdogs, with crew members adopting callsigns Thunderdog one through twenty.
After the 2003 season, the Vanderhoof crew grew into a to a 20 person crew, now focusing on broader wildfire prevention and response, not just beetle-damaged areas.
In 2004 the Titan Unit Crew was officially established carrying on the spirit of the Thunderdogs.
