LYTTON – The BC Wildfire Service will be conducting a pile burning project located along the Nicomen Forest Service Road (FSR).
BC Wildfire Service crews will be working to burn approximately 10 to 20 piles starting on Friday, October 18 until the end of November. This pile burning project is taking place in an effort to clean up the excess fuels (e.g. dead wood or brush) made from chainsaw training and community protection in the area. It will also help clean up the right of way along the FSR where an excess of debris and fuel has built up from a previous wildfire during the 2021 season.
Smoke from piles may be visible to residents of Nicomen Indian Band and surrounding communities. Pile burning will only proceed if conditions are favourable. BC Wildfire Service personnel will carefully prepare, control and monitor these piles at all times.
To report a wildfire, unattended campfire or open burning violation, please call 1-800-663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cell phone.
