Provincial Wildfire Status Update – August 8, 2022

Over the weekend, wildfire activity remained stable, which favoured wildfire suppression efforts. Multiple successful planned ignitions operations have been effective in achieving containment objectives on large, active wildfires.

Of the 561 wildfires this season, 54 remain active. Over half of these active fires are either Under Control or Being Held, meaning further growth is not expected.

Weather forecast

Dry and stable conditions expected across the province today. Temperatures are generally above seasonal but remain cooler in the north. Tomorrow, a weather system off the coast of Northern California may reach the southern tip of Vancouver Island, bringing with it a risk of dry lightning. By Wednesday, the risk of dry lightning expands to the Southern Interior. This thunderstorm risk is likely to linger over the southern third of the province into the weekend.

The next Provincial Wildfire Status Update will be provided on August 11, 2022.
