Prescribed burn to be completed in the Penticton Creek area

PENTICTON – The BC Wildfire Service, Penticton Indian Band and District of Okanagan Similkameen will be conducting a prescribed burn along Greyback FSR, approximately six kilometers northeast of Penticton.

Smoke and flames may be visible from the City of Penticton, surrounding areas and to travelers along Highway 97, 97C and Highway 3A.

This 35 hectare burn will complete the final section of an ongoing prescribed burn project that has been completed in stages over the last five to ten years.

This burn is expected to begin early this spring, prior to new grass growth. Preparation for this project will likely take place in late March.

The objective of this prescribed burn is to reduce fine fuels within the treatment area and support ecosystem restoration. This project also provides critical cross training opportunities for staff of the Penticton Indian Band and the BC Wildfire Service.
