Pile burning starting near Pinantan Lake

KAMLOOPS – The BC Wildfire Service is supporting the Thompson Rivers Natural Resource District in conducting a fuels management project. This project is taking place at Pinantan Lake, located approximately 22 kilometres northeast of Kamloops.

BC Wildfire Service crews will be helping to burn piles as part of a larger ongoing fuels management project. Activities such as pile burning help reduce wildfire hazards by reducing accumulations of fuels (e.g., dead wood or brush) on the landscape.

Smoke from piles may be visible as early as today, November 14, until the end of November. Pile burning will only proceed if conditions are favourable. BC Wildfire Service personnel will carefully prepare, control and monitor these piles at all times. Smoke may be visible to the Pinantan Lake community and surrounding areas.

To report a wildfire, unattended campfire or open burning violation, please call 1 800 663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cell phone.
