MERRITT – The BC Wildfire Service, in conjunction with the Upper Nicola Fire Department, will be conducting a fuels management project located at Salmon Lake, approximately 60 kilometres northeast of Merritt.
BC Wildfire Service crews will be working to burn approximately 40 piles starting as early as Nov. 12, 2024, and continue through to the end of November. This project is taking place for Wildfire Risk Reduction purposes. Activities such as pile burning help reduce wildfire hazards by reducing accumulations of fuels (e.g., dead wood or brush) on the landscape.
Smoke from piles may be visible to residents of the Upper Nicola Band, and surrounding communities. Pile burning will only proceed if conditions are favourable. BC Wildfire Service personnel will carefully prepare, control and monitor these fires.
To report a wildfire, unattended campfire or open burning violation, please call 1 800 663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cell phone, or submit a report directly through the BC Wildfire Service mobile app.
