MACKENZIE – The BC Wildfire Service will be completing a wildfire hazard abatement project in the Germansen Landing area. Burning is anticipated to start on Nov. 4, 2024, and continue until Nov. 8, 2024. BC Wildfire Service personnel will carefully prepare, control and monitor these fires.
BC Wildfire Service crews will burn approximately 275 piles along the Germansen Landing corridor, between kilometres 3 and 47 on the Thutade Forest Service Road (FSR). Smoke and/or flames may be visible from the Germansen Landing corridor, Old Hogem, Germansen Lake and the Manson FSR.
Individuals traveling near burn sites should exercise caution and be aware of crews working in the area. While none of these burns are anticipated to impact roadways, there is potential for smoke to impact visibility.
Activities such as pile burning help reduce wildfire hazards by reducing accumulations of fuels (e.g., dead wood or brush) on the landscape. The exact timing of the burns will depend on site, weather, venting and snow conditions. Burning will proceed only if conditions are favourable.
To report a wildfire, unattended campfire or open burning violation, call 1-800-663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cell phone or through the BC Wildfire Service mobile app.
