Pile burning planned near Grand Forks

CASTLEGAR – The BC Wildfire Service will support BC Timber Sales with firefighting personnel to burn up to 100 piles of wood debris north of Grand Forks.

This project is scheduled to start as early as October 20, 2023, and will be over two sites located in the Moody Creek area west of Christina Lake, and the Pass Creek area north of Grand Forks.

Smoke from this burn may be visible from the communities of Grand Forks, Greenwood and surrounding areas. Smoke may also be visible to motorists travelling along Highway 3.

The exact timing of the pile burn will depend on the site, weather and venting conditions, burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for the smoke to dissipate.

The intent of the burn is to remove debris piles to help reduce fuel in the event of an unwanted wildfire and assist in silviculture efforts in the area.

The Southeast Fire Centre extends from the U.S. border in the south to Mica Dam in the north, from the Okanagan Highlands and Monashee Mountains in the west, and to the B.C.-Alberta border in the east.
