Pile burning planned for Harper Mountain Ski Hill

KAMLOOPS – The BC Wildfire Service will be conducting various projects at Harper Mountain Ski Hill. Crews will be burning 50 -100 piles that are created as a result of falling and thinning of trees over the upcoming month.

The purpose of this project is to provide critical training experiences for staff and to help reduce wildfire hazards around the lodge and other infrastructure by reducing the accumulation of fuels (e.g., tree limbs, woody debris, organic material).

Smoke may be visible from Kamloops and surrounding areas.

The exact timing of this burn will depend on weather and site conditions, but it could begin as early as April 2. Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though smoke may also linger in the following days.

To report a wildfire, unattended campfire, or open burning violation, call 1-800-663-5555 tollfree or *5555 on a cell phone or through the BC Wildfire Service mobile app. For the latest information on current wildfire activity, burning restrictions, road closures and air-quality advisories, visit: http://www.bcwildfire.ca.
