KAMLOOPS – The BC Wildfire Service will be supporting the Thompson Rivers Natural Resource District in conducting a fuels management project at the east end of Pinantan Lake and the Greenstone Fire Lookout on Greenstone Mountain. Crews will be burning 25-50 piles at each site for a total of approximately 100 piles.
The purpose of this project is to help reduce wildfire hazards by reducing accumulations of fuels (e.g., tree limbs, woody debris, organic material) from previous fuels management work in the area.
Smoke may be visible from Kamloops and surrounding areas, and to motorists travelling along Highway 5, 1 and 97.
The exact timing of this burn will depend on weather and site conditions, but it could begin as early as March 25. Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though smoke may also linger in the following days.
To report a wildfire, unattended campfire, or open burning violation, call 1 800 663-5555 tollfree or *5555 on a cell phone or through the BC Wildfire Service mobile app. For the latest information on current wildfire activity, burning restrictions, road closures and air-quality advisories, visit: http://www.bcwildfire.ca.
