Pile burning planned for areas within the Kamloops Fire Zone

KAMLOOPS – The BC Wildfire Service is assisting Interfor in conducting wildfire risk reduction projects throughout the Kamloops Fire Zone, as described below. Crews will be burning approximately 20 piles throughout these locations as site and weather conditions allow.

Pile burning will occur:

  • approximately 40 kilometres northeast of Clearwater along the Raft River Forest Service Road (FSR) and Raft Kowalski FSR
  • approximately 15 kilometres north of Lee Creek off of the Lee Creek FSR
  • approximately 20 kilometres west of Adams Lake near the Fadear Creek area

The purpose of this project is to help mitigate wildfire risk in the area by reducing the accumulation of fuels (e.g., tree limbs, woody debris, organic material).

Smoke may be visible from Clearwater, Scotch Creek, Adams Lake and surrounding areas and to motorists travelling along Highway 5.

The exact timing of this burn will depend on weather and site conditions, but it could begin as early as Friday, October 2. Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though smoke may also linger in the following days.
