Open fires to be allowed again in Cariboo Fire Centre



WILLIAMS LAKE – Effective at 12:00 (noon) PDT on Friday, October 28, 2022, Category 2 and Category 3 open burning prohibitions will expire in the Cariboo Fire Centre.

This prohibition is being rescinded jointly with the Tsilhqot’in (Xeni Gwet’in) Nation.

The prohibition on the following activities and the use of the following equipment, materials and substances will also be rescinded:

  • Fireworks
  • Air curtain burners
  • Sky lanterns
  • Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description
  • Binary exploding targets

More information on open burning is available on the BC Wildfire Service website. Local prohibitions may be in effect. Check with local government authorities for restrictions before lighting any fire.

The BC Wildfire Service also reminds the public that anyone lighting a Category 3 fire must first obtain a burn registration number. Registration numbers are available by calling 1-888-797-1717 or emailing hpr.1800@gov.bc.ca.
