KAMLOOPS – The BC Wildfire Service will be supporting Recreation Sites and Trails BC in conducting multiple fuels management projects across the Kamloops area at various recreation sites.
The purpose of this project is to help reduce wildfire hazards by removing woody debris left over from the removal of danger trees at these sites. Each site may have between one to four Category 2 piles that will be safely burnt by BC Wildfire Service staff prior to the wildfire season.
To view the location of these recreation sites and where work may occur please see below list:
Smoke may be visible from the communities of Barriere, Little Fort, Logan Lake, Whitecroft, surrounding areas and to motorists travelling along Highway 5, 5A, 1 and 97.
The exact timing of this work will vary, depending on additional fuels management work on site, as well as weather and site conditions, but work on these projects could begin as early as Monday, March 30. Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though smoke may also linger in the following days.
To report a wildfire, unattended campfire, or open burning violation, call 1 800 663-5555 tollfree or *5555 on a cell phone or through the BC Wildfire Service mobile app. For the latest information on current wildfire activity, burning restrictions, road closures and air-quality advisories, visit: http://www.bcwildfire.ca.
