Lightning activity and response in the Pemberton Fire Zone



PARKSVILLE – There are thirteen active wildfires in the Pemberton Fire Zone, seven were new lightning-caused starts on Saturday, August 10.

All new starts were actioned by crews and aviation resources. Four fires are Under Control, four are Being Held, and five are Out of Control. In the last 24 hours, three fires have been called Out (extinguished). None of the fires present an immediate threat to values.

Birkenhead River 1 & 2 (V32024 & V32049) were actioned by two helicopters.

The Birkenhead Lake Fire (V31836) has occurrences of rolling debris and tree failure in steep, challenging terrain. Crews are working to establish a fuel free area on the northwest flank to prevent fire spread.

The Rutherford Creek Fire (V31841) demonstrated organized ground fire and isolated tree candling. Crews and aviation resources will continue actioning workable objectives tomorrow.

The Rogers Creek 1 Fire (V31825) is in a remote location and is being actively monitored.
