Crew History
The Heatseeker Unit Crew is based in the village of Pemberton at the confluence of the Green and Lillooet rivers beneath the iconic Mount Currie. The crew originated as the D’arcy Heatseeker Unit Crew and was moved to its current location at the Pemberton Fire Base.
The crew is focused on the well-being of staff and the success of this approach is proven in their high retention rate. The Heatseeker Unit Crew has one of the highest seniority and years of service rates of all the crews in the province. The leadership team is a collection of individuals from various crews around B.C. which has allowed the crew to develop a deep understanding and adoption of the values, skills and perspectives of multiple fire centres. The mission of the Heatseeker Unit Crew is to develop professional, motivated and positive career firefighters who embody the values of excellence, teamwork and integrity. The crew cultivates a true learning environment, where every member is valued and encouraged to contribute to both the individual and collective growth of the team.
In recent years, the Heatseeker Unit Crew has actively sought to break down barriers within their own unit and across the broader BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), engaging in initiatives aimed at improving the organization as a whole. This commitment to making the BCWS a better place to work speaks to the crews’ dedication to not just excellence in firefighting, but in the ongoing development of the wildfire community.
