CASTLEGAR – The BC Wildfire Service continues to respond to the Ravenshead wildfire (N21610), located about 20 km east of the District of Invermere and about 16 km northeast of Highway 93/95.
The Area Restriction in place for this wildfire is being reduced in size, but there is still a continued need to protect the public in areas where ongoing fire suppression activities are taking place.
In the interest of public and responder safety, an amended Area Restriction is now in effect for the Ravenshead area and remains in force until the earlier of 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on Sept. 30, 2024, or until the Order is rescinded:
- Starting at the confluence of the Kootenay River and Cochran Creek (50° 35.112′, -115° 46.513′),
- Follow Cochran Creek northeastward to the junction with Kootenay-Palliser Forest Service Road (FSR) (50° 35.354’, -115° 45.456’),
- Follow Kootenay-Palliser FSR north to height of land (50° 35.555’, -115° 45.675’),
- Follow height of land northeastward to a point on the height of land (50° 36.602′, -115° 44.808′),
- Follow height of land northeastward to the junction of permit roads R03142 SEC120 and SEC122 (50° 37.033′, -115° 44.420′),
- Follow the height of land northeastward to point on height of land (50° 37.437′, -115° 43.409′),
- Follow height of land east and descending to the road junction of permit roads R01298 SPUR 17-1 and SEC A (50° 36.567′, -115° 41.402′),
- Follow height of land eastward to a point on the height of land (50° 36.254′, -115° 39.707′),
- Follow the height of land eastward to (50° 34.083′, -115° 36.681′),
- Follow the height of land descending to unnamed creek (50° 34.351′, -115° 34.497′),
- Follow unnamed creek eastward to the confluence at the Albert River (50° 33.930′, -115° 33.413′),
- Continuing southward along the eastern edge of Albert River to the confluence of Albert River, Palliser River and the Albert River FSR (50° 32.002′, -115° 33.991′),
- Continuing southward along the Albert River FSR to the junction of the Albert River FSR, Kootenay River FSR and Palliser River FSR (50° 31.441′, -115° 34.140′),
- Follow Palliser River FSR east to height of land (50° 31.331’, -115° 33.542’),
- Follow height of land, continuing along the upper ridge to point on height of land (50° 28.767′, -115° 33.040′),
- Follow height of land descending in elevation southward to the Fenwick Creek (50° 27.758′, -115° 34.471′),
- Following Fenwick Creek westward for approximately 6.25 km (50° 27.876′, -115° 35.978′),
- Heading southward at 184 degrees approximately 2713 metres to height of land (50° 26.448′, -115° 36.477′),
- Follow the height of land to point on unnamed creek (50° 26.538’, -115° 37.268’),
- Follow unnamed creek to the Kootenay River and following the south bank of the Kootenay River west to Pedley Creek (50° 26.551′, -115° 38.817′),
- Continuing westward follow Pedley Creek to a 20 metre offset from the eastern Right of Way of the Settlers-Kootenay Forest Service Road (50° 26.298′, -115° 39.974′).
- Continuing northwest along a 20 metre offset from the Settlers-Kootenay FSR road Right of Way (RoW) to unnamed creek at (50° 30.142′, -115° 43.197′).
- Follow unnamed creek northward to the north bank of the Kootenay River (50° 30.283′, -115° 43.041′),
- Finally following the north bank of the Kootenay River and the confluence with Cochran Creek (50° 35.112′, -115° 46.513′).
Note: Navigating the Kootenay River is permitted; entering into the restricted area off the river is prohibited.

Under this Order and section 11(2) of the Wildfire Act, a person must not remain in or enter the restricted area without the prior written authorization of an official designated for the purposes of the Wildfire Act, unless the person:
Enters the area only in the course of:
(a) Travelling to or from his or her principal residence, that is not under an evacuation order;
(b) Travelling to or from his or her private or leased property for the purpose of accessing his or her secondary residence or property, that is not under an evacuation order;
(c) Using a highway as defined in the Highway Act;
(d) Travelling as a person acting in an official capacity as defined in s.56 of the Wildfire Act; or
(e) Travelling for the purpose of supporting wildfire suppression or enforcement patrol activities.
Failure to comply with Section 11 restricted area requirements may result in a violation ticket for $1,150.
