Area restriction in effect for the Mount Lavina area



CASTLEGAR – The BC Wildfire Service continues to respond to the Mount Lavina wildfire (N71098), located about 7.5 kilometres northeast of the community of Meadow Creek, and about 5 km east of Highway 31. The size is estimated to be 35 hectares.

In the interest of public and responder safety, an area restriction is now in effect within the Mt. Lavina area:

  • Commencing at the junction of Duncan River FSR and Glacier Creek Point 1 (50° 17.044’ -116° 55.285′),
  • following Glacier Creek to where Mcleod Creek enters Glacier Creek Point 2 (50° 18.873′, -116° 52.893′),
  • ascending Mcleod Creek draw to Point 3 (50° 16.916′, -116° 51.263′),
  • continuing south roughly along the height of land,
  • tying into the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy Park boundary and following the boundary until a point at Point 4 (50° 16.022′, -116° 52.650′),
  • following due west to the Duncan River FSR Point 5(50° 16.179′, -116° 55.078′)
  • following the east edge of the Duncan River FSR right-of-way back to point of commencement.

Under this Order and section 11(2) of the Wildfire Act, a person must not remain in or enter the restricted area, unless the person:

  1. first receives written authorization of an official designated for the purposes of the Wildfire Act, or
  2. enters the area only in the course of:
    (a) travelling to or from his or her primary residence, that is not under an evacuation order;
    (b) using a highway as defined in the Transportation Act;
    (c) travelling as a person acting in an official capacity as defined in s.56 of the Wildfire Act; or
    (d) travelling for the purpose of supporting wildfire suppression or enforcement patrol activities.
