Area restriction in effect for the Fosthall Creek area



CASTLEGAR – The BC Wildfire Service continues to respond to the Fosthall Creek wildfire (N51090), located about 24 kilometres northwest of the Village of Nakusp, and about 9 kilometres west of Highway 23. The size is estimated to be 82 hectares.

In the interest of public and responder safety, an area restriction is now in effect within the Fosthall Creek area:

  • Commencing at the junction of Whatshan FSR and Section One Road (50 23.141, -118 1.512),
  • heading due northwest to a point along Fosthall Creek (50 26.326, -118 3.846),
  • turning due north/northeast to coordinates (50 26.635, -118 1.615),
  • heading south/southeast to tie into the junction of Branch 1 Pingston and North Fosthall Road Section 1H (50 24.607, -118 0.160),
  • following along Branch 1 Pingston to the junction of Section One Road and North Fosthall Road Section 1H (50 24.466, -118 0.670),
  • continuing along Section One Road to the point of commencement at the junction of Section One Road and Whatshan FSR.

Note: Section One Road remains open from its junction with Whatshan FSR (50 23.141, -118 1.512) until the junction of Section One Road and North Fosthall Road Section 1H (50 24.466, -118 0.670).

Under this Order and section 11(2) of the Wildfire Act, a person must not remain in or enter the restricted area, unless the person:

  1. first receives written authorization of an official designated for the purposes of the Wildfire Act, or
  2. enters the area only in the course of:

(a) travelling to or from his or her primary residence, that is not under an evacuation order;

(b) using a highway as defined in the Transportation Act;

(c) travelling as a person acting in an official capacity as defined in s.56 of the Wildfire Act; or

(c) travelling for the purpose of supporting wildfire suppression or enforcement patrol activities.
