Area restriction in effect for the Blaeberry River area



CASTLEGAR – The BC Wildfire Service continues to respond to the Blaeberry River wildfire (N41259), located about 50 kilometres northeast of the town of Golden and about 33 kilometres northeast of Highway 1. The size is estimated to be 85 hectares.

In the interest of public and responder safety, an area restriction is now in effect within the Blaeberry River area:

  • Commencing at the Blaeberry River (51° 35.202′, -116° 46.218′),
  • heading east roughly following height of land to Hagen Peak (51° 35.112′, -116° 43.087′),
  • continuing along the height of land toward Mont Des Poilus Peak (51° 35.684′, -116° 36.401′),
  • continuing along height of land to Mt Baker (51° 39.919′, -116° 35.869′),
  • tying into the British Columbia-Alberta border to a point at (51° 44.673′, -116° 38.175′),
  • following southwest and crossing the Blaeberry River, roughly following height of land to a point at (51° 42.713′, -116° 46.827′),
  • continuing south along height of land to Mt Cairnes (51° 41.076′, -116° 46.809′),
  • following height of land southeast back down to point of commencement.

Under this Order and section 11(2) of the Wildfire Act, a person must not remain in or enter the restricted area, unless the person:

  1. first receives written authorization of an official designated for the purposes of the Wildfire Act, or
  2. enters the area only in the course of:
    (a) travelling to or from his or her primary residence, that is not under an evacuation order;
    (b) using a highway as defined in the Transportation Act;
    (c) travelling as a person acting in an official capacity as defined in s.56 of the Wildfire Act; or
    (d) travelling for the purpose of supporting wildfire suppression or enforcement patrol activities.
