Area Restriction extension for the Shetland Creek wildfire (K70910)



KAMLOOPS – The BC Wildfire Service has extended an Area Restriction Order within the vicinity of the Shetland Creek wildfire (K70910), which originated approximately 7.5 kilometres from Spences Bridge. This Order takes effect at 12:00 (noon) Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) on August 13, 2024, and remains in force until 12:00 (noon) PDT on August 27, 2024, or until the Order is rescinded.

This area restriction reflects the need to protect public and BC Wildfire Service personnel safety in areas where fire suppression activities are taking place.

Under section 11(1) of the Wildfire Act, and pursuant tothe authority delegated to me by the Minister of Forests, to address a public safety concern arising from the Shetland Creek Wildfire (K70910) and to avoid interference with fire control, I, Jeffrey Dunne, Fire Centre Manager, hereby designate the area described below as a restricted area.

Under this Order and section 11(2) of the Wildfire Act, a person must not remain in or enter the restricted area unless the person:

  1. Travelling as a person acting in an official capacity.
  2. Travelling for the purpose of supporting wildfire suppression activities.
  3. Travelling to or from his or her principal residence, that is not under an evacuation order.
  4. Travelling to or from his or her private or leased property for the purposes of accessing his or her secondary residence or recreational property, that is not under an evacuation order.
  5. Using a highway as defined in the Transportation Act; or
  6. Engaging and/or participating in agricultural activities pertaining to livestock or agriculture management on Crown Range, Crown Grazing Lease, private or leased property.

This Order applies to Crown land within the geographic boundaries described below and as outlined in the heavy black dashed and shaded grey line on the attached map.

North Boundary: Commencing at Point 1(50° 42.132′, -121° 35.844′), at the intersection of Hat Creek Road and Lemen Road, travel 7493 m at a bearing of 90° to Point 2 (50° 42.079′, -121° 29.480′), located at the western boundary of Cornwall Hills Provincial Park. Travel East along the southern boundary of Cornwall Hills Provincial Park to the intersection of the park boundary and the boundary of the Corporation of the Village of Ashcroft. Then follow the Village of Ashcroft boundary south to where it meets Highway 1(Point 3: 50° 38.819′, -121° 20.896′).

East Boundary: Commencing at Point 3, follow Highway 1 South for 28 Km to Point 4 (50° 25.683′, -121° 19.304′), located at the intersection of Highway 1 and the southeast corner of PID 009147969. Follow the PID 009147969 boundary in a northwesterly direction along LISH-LEESH-TUM 17 Indian Reserve boundary, then west along SPENCES BRIDGE 4C Indian Reserve, and then west along TWOYQHASHT 16 Indian Reserve to Point 5 (50° 25.830′, -121° 20.315′), located at the Northwest corner of TWOYQHASHT 16 Indian Reserve. Continue west along Spences Bridge (MR) Conservation Lands, west then south along SHAWNIKEN 3 Indian Reserve to Point 6 (50° 24.243′, -121° 23.004′), at the Southwestern boundary of SHAWNKINEN 3 Indian Reserve. Take a bearing of 174° and travel 135 metres to the intersection of PID 013786482, PID 013786440 and Thompson River (Point 7: 50° 24.171′, -121° 22.993′), then follow the Thompson River south to the confluence of Thompson River and Skoonka Creek (Point 8: 50° 22.461′, -121° 23.989′).

South Boundary: Commencing at Point 8, continue west along Skoonka Creek to the confluence of unnamed creek and Skoonka Creek (Point 9: 50° 23.229′, -121° 28.005′). Then head 1194 metres at a bearing of 291° to the Southeastern corner of Skwaha Lake Ecological Reserve (Point 10: 50° 23.469′, -121° 28.940′). Travel North and West along the boundaries of Skwaha Lake Ecological Reserve, BOOTANIE 15 Indian Reserve, NANANANHOUT 1 Indian Reserve to Laluwissin Creek FSR, then head Northwest to private parcel PID 004383273. Follow the northern boundaries of the private parcels PIDs 014685191 and 014685221, to where PID 001721577 meets Laluwissin-N. Laluwi FSR (Point 11:50° 27.568′, -121° 38.136′).

West Boundary: Commencing at Point 11, follow the Laluwissin-N. Laluwi FSR to the end of the FSR (Point 12: 50° 32.835’, -121° 36.494’), then take a bearing of 14° and travel 2738 metres to where Hat Creek intersects Hat90 FTEN Road Section (Point 13: 50° 34.268′, -121° 35.929′). Follow Hat Creek in a northerly direction to the intersection of where Hat Creek intersect private parcel PID 014646064. Then proceed north following the boundaries of PIDs (014646064, 0146466099, 010367284,010367314, 010367381) until PID 010367381 intersects with Hat Creek Road. Continue along Hat Creek Road North back to Point 1.
