Area restriction amended for Slocan Lake Complex



CASTLEGAR – The BC Wildfire Service continues to respond to the Slocan Lake Complex, including, but not limited to, the Komonko Creek wildfire (N51210), Nemo Creek wildfire (N51103), Ponderosa FSR wildfire (N51069) and Mulvey Creek wildfire (N51117).

This area restriction has been amended, but there is a continued need to protect the public in areas where ongoing fire suppression activities are taking place.

This amended area restriction takes effect August 12, 2024, at 12:00 noon (PDT) for the Slocan Lake Complex and remains in force until 12:00 noon (PDT) on September 30, 2024, or until the Order is rescinded.

This Order applies to Crown land within the geographic boundaries described below:

  • Commencing at the junction of Twigg Creek and Silverton creek,
  • heading west to the confluence of Bartlett creek and Silverton Creek then south to the junction of hwy 6 and the Bannock trail road.
  • West to the edge of Slocan lake then south along the shoreline to the confluence of the Slocan River and Lemon creek,
  • then east up Lemon Creek to the junction of Lemon Creek and Crusader Road,
  • then north to Arlington peak following the height of land NW to Selkirk peak and back to the point of commencement.

Note: Travel along crusader road, and Bannock trail is not permitted.

Under this Order and section 11(2) of the Wildfire Act, a person must not remain in or enter the restricted area without the prior written authorization of an official designated for the purposes of the Wildfire Act, unless the person:
Enters the area only in the course of:

  1. Travelling to or from his or her principal residence, that is not under evacuation an order;
  2. Travelling to or from his or her private or leased property for the purpose of accessing his or her secondary residence or recreational property, that is not under an evacuation order;
  3. Using a highway as defined in the Highway Act;
  4. Travelling as a person acting in an official capacity as defined in s.56 of the Wildfire Act;
  5. Travelling for the purpose of supporting wildfire suppression or enforcement patrol activities.

Failure to comply with Section 11 restricted area requirements may result in a violation ticket for $1,150.
