CASTLEGAR – The BC Wildfire Service continues to respond to the Dry Creek wildfire (N41079) located in the Regional District of Central Kootenay.
This area restriction is being amended and there is still a continued need to protect the public in areas where ongoing fire suppression activities are taking place.
The amended area restriction takes effect Aug 16, 2024, at 12 p.m. noon (PDT) for the Dry Creek wildfire and remains in force until the earlier of 12 p.m. noon (PDT) on Sept 30, 2024, or until the Order is rescinded.
This Order applies to Crown land within the geographic boundaries described below:
- Commencing at the intersection of the Shelter Bay FSR and Dry Creek FSR (50° 37.733’, -117° 56.508′)
- Following the east side of Dry Creek FSR northwest approximately 8.3 km to a switchback corner at coordinate (50° 40.012′, -118° 0.669′)
- Then south, following the height of land to the small water body on top of unnamed peak (50° 35.558′, -118° 0.044′)
- From the small water body following the natural drainage north, then east to where it drains into Upper Arrow Lake
- Follow the natural boundary of the lake north to a point due east of Shelter Bay FSR (50° 36.938’, -117° 56.461’)
- Follow the east side of Shelter Bay FSR back to the point of commencement

Note:
- Travel is prohibited on the Dry Creek FSR and Shelter Bay FSR within the area restriction.
- Shelter Bay Provincial Park is not included in the area restriction.
- The Galena Bay ferry remains open. Conditions can change rapidly; check DriveBC.ca for updates on road closures and conditions before travelling.
Under this Order and section 11(2) of the Wildfire Act, a person must not remain in or enter the restricted area, unless the person:
- First receives written authorization from an official designated for the following purposes from the Wildfire Act,
- Enters the area only in the course of:
(a) travelling to or from his or her residence that is not under an evacuation order;
(b) using a highway as defined in the Transportation Act;
(c) travelling as a person acting in an official capacity as defined in s.56 of the Wildfire Act; or
(d) travelling for the purpose of supporting wildfire suppression or enforcement patrol activities.
Failure to comply with Section 11 restricted area requirements may result in a violation ticket for $1,150.
