Area Restriction in place for the Downton Creek FSR wildfire



LILLOOET – The BC Wildfire Service has implemented an Area Restriction Order for the vicinity of the Downton Creek FSR wildfire (K71717), which is located approximately 18 kilometres southwest of Lillooet. The size of the area restriction reflects the continued need to protect the public in areas where there are ongoing fire suppression activities.

This Order takes effect at 08:00 (8 am) Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) on September 4, 2022 and remains in force until the earlier of 12:00 (noon) PDT on September 18, 2022 or until the Order is rescinded.

Under this Order and section 11(2) of the Wildfire Act, a person must not remain in or enter the restricted area unless the person:

Enters the area only in the course of:

  1. Travelling as a person acting in an official capacity;
  2. Travelling for the purpose of supporting wildfire suppression activities;
  3. Travelling to or from his or her principal residence, that is not under an evacuation order;
  4. Travelling to or from his or her private or leased property for the purposes of accessing his or her secondary residence or recreational property, that is not under an evacuation order; or,
  5. Using a highway as defined in the Highway Act (e.g. Hwy 99).

This Order applies to Crown land within the geographic boundaries described below and as outlined in the heavy black dashed and shaded grey line on the map.

  • East Boundary: Commencing on Hwy 99 at Point #1 (N50°36.20′ W122°06.02′), travel south along the western edge of the highway to Point #2 (N50°33.67′ W122°05.48’)
  • South Boundary: Commencing at Point #2, travel 5.4km at a bearing 273.3° to Point #3 ((N)50°33.85′ (W)122°10.07′) at the tributary of Downton Creek.
  • West Boundary: Commencing at Point #3, travel north along the tributary to the confluence where the tributary and Downton Creek meet (Point #4: (N)50°35.41′ (W)122°09.39′).
  • North Boundary: From Point #4 travel 2.1 km @ a bearing of 48.8°, to the tributary of Cayoosh Creek (Point #5: (N)50°36.18′ (W)122°08.10′), then travel east along the tributary of the creek to the eastern shore of Cayoosh Creek (Point #6: Creek (N)50°36.21′ (W)122°06.19′). Continue another 200 m at a bearing of 93° back to Point #1 at Highway 99.
