Pile burning planned for Lytton area north of Kumsheen Rafting Resort

LYTTON – The BC Wildfire Service will be continuing to conduct a fuel reduction project north and south of Kumsheen Rafting Resort, adjacent to the property and Highway 1. The purpose of this project is to help mitigate wildfire risk in the area by reducing the accumulation of fuels (e.g., tree limbs, woody debris, organic material) from previous fires and will be working to burn up to 150 piles in total.

Key goals of this pile burning project include:

  • Reducing build-up of dead and combustible material
  • Removing forest fuels to reduce the long-term risk of wildfire

Smoke may be visible from Lytton and surrounding areas and to motorists travelling along Highway 1.

The exact timing of this pile burn will depend on weather and site conditions, but it could begin as early as Monday, October 5, and will be ongoing. Burning will proceed if conditions are suitable and allow for smoke dispersal during burn operations, though smoke may also linger in the following days.
