Area restriction in effect for the Inonoaklin Creek area



CASTLEGAR – The BC Wildfire Service continues to respond to the Inonoaklin Creek wildfire (N51198). This wildfire is estimated to be 597 hectares and is located in the Inonoaklin Creek area, 17 km northwest of Needles.

In the interest of public and responder safety, this area restriction takes effect immediately and remains in place until the earlier of 12:00 noon (PT) on October 15, 2026, or until the Order is rescinded. This Order applies to Crown land within the geographic boundaries described below and as outlined on the attached map.

This Order applies to Crown land within the geographic boundaries described below:

  • Commencing at the junction of Highway 6 and the unnamed road at Point #1 (-118° 13.107′, 49° 56.544′)
  • Following the powerline south to the intersection of Snowshoe Lake 1000 Forest Service Road (FSR) and Snowshoe Road at Point #2 (-118° 11.642′, 49° 54.417′)
  • Take a bearing of 63 degrees and follow it to the northeast for 1,950 meters to the intersection of Snowshoe Road and Barnes Creek West FSR at Point #3 (-118° 8.959′, 49° 55.313′)
  • Following Barnes Creek West FSR northwest to the intersection of Barnes Creek West FSR and Eureka FSR at Point #4 (-118° 17.255′, 50° 4.521′)
  • Continue along Eureka FSR west to the intersection of Eureka FSR and Holding Creek at Point #5 (-118° 20.687′, 50° 5.475′)
  • Follow Holding Creek west to the top of Inonoaklin Mountain; follow the height of land to the beginning of Coates Creek at Point #6 (-118° 23.477′, 50° 4.611′)
  • Follow Coates Creek west to the intersection of Coates Creek and Weyco Transfer Road at Point #7 (-118° 25.179′, 50° 3.890′)
  • Follow the road west to the intersection of Weyco Transfer Road and Highway 6 at Point #8 (-118° 25.466′, 50° 3.727′)
  • Follow Highway 6 southeast back to Point #1

Under this Order and section 11(2) of the Wildfire Act, a person must not remain in or enter the restricted area without the prior written authorization of an official designated for the purposes of the Wildfire Act, unless the person:

Enters the area only in the course of:

  1. Travelling to or from his or her principal residence, that is not under evacuation an order;
  2. Using a highway as defined in the Transportation Act;
  3. Travelling as a person acting in an official capacity as defined in s.56 of the Wildfire Act;
  4. Travelling for the purpose of supporting wildfire suppression or enforcement patrol activities.

Failure to comply with Section 11 restricted area requirements may result in a violation ticket for $1,150.
