CASTLEGAR – The BC Wildfire Service continues to respond to the Lost Dog wildfire (N21284), located about 46 km northwest from the community of Wasa. The size is estimated to be 596 hectares.
In the interest of public and responder safety, an area restriction is now in effect within the Lost Dog area.
This Order applies to Crown land within the geographic boundaries described below:
- Commencing at the Buhl Creek Rec Site @ [49° 57.783′, -116° 1.735′],
- Heading South tying into the junction at Buhl Creek & Road 4/5 @ [49° 57.641′, -116° 1.680′] and continuing South along Buhl Creek to [49° 55.354′, -116° 4.681′],
- Turning East following the height of land to the Skookumchuck Creek @ [49° 54.383′, -115° 52.439′] then turning North following Skookumchuck Creek to the mouth of Sandown Creek @ [49° 57.861′, -115° 51.821′],
- Continuing North along Sandown Creek tying into the crossing of Skookumchuck FSR & Sandown Creek @ [ 50° 0.249′, -115° 52.614′] and continuing along Sandown Creek to [50° 1.192′, -115° 53.797′],
- Turning West and following height of land tying into the Sandown Radio Tower @ [50° 1.300′, -115° 59.866′] then continuing along height of land and finishing at the point of commencement at Buhl Creek Rec Site @ [49° 57.783′, -116° 1.735′].
Under this Order and section 11(2) of the Wildfire Act, a person must not remain in or enter the restricted area without the prior written authorization of an official designated for the purposes of the Wildfire Act, unless the person:
Enters the area only in the course of:
(a)Travelling to or from his or her principle residence, that is not under an evacuation order;
(b)Using a highway as defined in the Highway Act;
(c)Travelling as a person acting in an official capacity as defined in s.56 of the Wildfire Act; or
(d)Travelling for the purpose of supporting wildfire suppression or enforcement patrol activities.
